The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery is recruiting a postdoctoral research scholar for the study of skeletal stem cells with the eventual goal of high-level cell therapy design. Be part of a rich collaborative environment of excellence in an open concept laboratory enabled by the Bethel Musculoskeletal Research Center in adjacency with Pitt BioForge. Co-mentorship will be available through the Joint Tissue Biology, Pathology, and Engineering lab (JTBE) and concurrently Dr. Cong from the Division of Sports Medicine.

Qualifications or Expectations:

  • • Post-graduate degree (MD or PhD) with capacity to perform conventional cell sorting of primary tissue specimens and murine transplantation and injury models. Immunofluorescence.
    • Ability to independently perform research activities.
    • Ability to write and publish, with intent to continue in an academic pathway.

Opportunities Available:

  • • Travel funds provided for annual ORS and travel support for podium-level presentations is generally supported.
    • Operating room and clinical shadowing opportunities permissible on a 1 day per week basis.
    • Other ancillary opportunities will be supported on a case-by-case basis.

Duties or Responsibilities:

  • • Written Postdoctoral Career Development Plan with the guidance of your mentors including plans for publications and grant submissions.
    • Spend full-time conducting research in collaboration with two core mentors (research and clinical) with focus on research with maintained clinical relevance.
    • Expected independence towards primary human skeletal stem cell research involving high-level cell sorting and transplantation experiments for stem cell discovery.
    • Participate in regular research project meetings with mentors and other collaborations.
    • Participate in regular meetings with other Postdoctoral Associates and Scholars to generate research ideas and write grant proposals.
    • Publish at least two journal articles per year as first author
