Postdoctoral Appointee - MSD Hydrated Polymer Electrolytes
Location: Lemont, USA
Posted On: 2024-12-17
The Materials Science Division at Argonne National Laboratory is hiring a postdoctoral appointee for investigating ion transport as a function of material structure and extent of hydration in polymer electrolyte materials. The role will require the individual to collaborate with other experimentalists, such as those engaged in polymer synthesis and x-ray scattering, in addition to working researchers performing molecular modeling and machine learning activities.
The candidate will be expected to perform ion conductivity experiments with thin film polymer electrolytes. The candidate will use lithography to fabricate new testing platforms to measure the hydroxide ion conductivity of thin film anion exchange polymer electrolytes. The candidate will be expected to make water uptake measurements in addition to characterizing the microstructure of the hydrated polymer electrolytes with the ultimate goal of establishing structure-hydration-ionic conductivity relationships.
Position Requirements
- Ph.D. in materials science and engineering, chemical engineering, chemistry and/or closely related discipline; received within the last 5 years or upcoming year.
- Expertise in organic materials characterization and electrochemistry
- The ability to work collaboratively with other personnel on the project and within the division and outside the division
- Excellent communication skills – both written and oral.
- The successful candidate is required to present research at technical meetings and publish results in peer reviewed journal articles.
- Ability to model Argonne’s core values of impact, safety, respect, integrity, and teamwork.
- Ability to make our laboratory a safe, welcoming, inclusive, and accessible environment where all can thrive.
